Lavendou Bistro Provençal constantly searches for wines that are unique to their origin and that offer exceptional quality, taste and value for our customers. One of our favorite areas for wines
that truly represent the Region of Provence is the tiny picturesque fishing village of Cassis. Grapes have been grown here and wine has been made here since 600 BC when the area first became
inhabited. The Cassis region was recognized for its’ unique quality early on and was one of the first wine making regions to be awarded an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée by the French government
in 1936. This is the legally defined and protected geographical indication which identifies where wine grapes are grown and adhere to a set of standards to insure quality and consistency. Today this
small wine producing area named Cassis consists of only a total of slightly over 500 acres and there are only 12 producers of Cassis wines. Cassis is rarely seen outside of this part of France and the
majority of the wines of Cassis are consumed along the French Riviera.
Château de Fontcreuse is recognized as one of the very best of the
twelve producers in Cassis and Lavendou is very lucky to have developed a relationship with the property in order to offer these delightful wines to our customers.

The Château de Fontcreuse estate consists of 69 acres planted to the Provençal varieties of Marsanne, Clairette and Ugni Blanc for the Cassis Blanc and Grenache and Cinsault for the Cassis Rosé. The vineyard’s terroir is composed of
light clay and limestone over a cretaceous soil that allows the grapevines to flourish. The soft special light in Provence allows the grapes to mature at a relaxed rate that is reflected in the outstanding gentle quality of these wines.
Viticulture is tradition and the growth is controlled to limit the quantity in favor of the quality. Modern winemaking techniques of controlled temperatures and cleanliness are used to insure the very best that the estate can offer by
using both traditional as well as modern techniques.

Château de Fontcreuse Cassis Blanc is recognized for its’ bright golden highlights and a bouquet of fruity essences of grapefruit, almond, peach, followed by golden apple and a voluptuous, lively and vigorously luscious taste
followed by a gentle and clean balanced finish.

Château de Fontcreuse Cassis Rosé exhibits a delicate pastel of pink color that catches the eye and then leads to a bouquet of white flowers and peaches. The taste of the rosé reveals a wonderful richness of a blend of red fruits with
hints of fresh raspberry coupled with clean citrus tastes leading to an enchanting finish. In a word, both of these wines can be described as simply delightful!

We feature the Cassis Blanc and the Cassis Rosé both by the bottle and also by the glass. These delightful wines are the perfect partner with any of Lavendou’s seafood dishes. Come an enjoy a glass of Cassis and allow Lavendou
to escort you to one of our favorite parts of France and Provence, the magical small fishing and wine producing village named Cassis.

And remember, Provence is as near as Lavendou
I hope to see you soon
