Big Ink Tips - October 2014

With the holidays right around the corner, chances are your staff and servers will be busy guys and ghouls. Here are a few ideas on how to show your appreciation for your employees holiday hustle before the
							season is over:

Plan a fun event or activity for your staff
Think of something that most of your staff could attend, like a team breakfast before your restaurant opens or a bowling night if your business is closed on Sunday. These kinds of occasions are easy to plan and not
too pricey, but will give your staff a feeling of appreciation and a chance to bond before busy season begins.

							Handwrite thank-you notes
My Southern roots may be showing here, but I believe a hand written thank-you note goes a long way. Your wait staff will appreciate that you’ve taken the time to individually thank each of them for the hard work
they do already, and for the long hours they will be putting in over the holidays. You could even slip a $5 Starbucks gift card in the note to get them fueled up for the season!

							Implement a friendly holiday competition
Another great way to get your staff excited about the holiday season is to put a competition into place. For example, choose an item from your menu that you’d like to push, and see which server can sell the most.
At the end of the week, the winning server could receive a nice bottle of Champagne and a gift card.
Have restaurant equipment you’d like to sell or consign? We are partners with
OIG Auctions, who have been doing equipment auctions for years. An auction is a great way to get paid on items that are just taking up space in your restaurant. We will be holding an online equipment auction next
month, so if you would like more information please contact us at 214-485-7300 or jeffrey@biginkpr.com.

							IS EMAIL MARKETING STILL RELEVANT?
With so many small businesses, especially restaurants, interacting directly with customers on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook, email can seem outdated as a marketing tool.

But don’t write it off just yet. Email is still very relevant to business marketing. In fact, email marketing and social networking should go hand in hand in your efforts to build relationships with customers,
boost your search-engine rankings, and grow your brand online.

							Why Email Marketing Matters
Although U.S. Internet users spend 27 percent of online time on social networking, Experian Marketing Services reports that email ranks as the top category for the amount of time users spend on mobile devices.

The question was, is, and will always be posed about the relevance of email marketing but the bottom line is that email is and will be the most effective form of communication for a long time to come.
